a familiar rhythmic beat is often heard while walking around villages, a very unique beat produced by women while pounding millet seeds. in this photo, three women were joining forces, producing continuous synchronized beats, the vibrations of which probably gave them more force and endurance to pound even stronger. in Maiduguri’s Dalti settlement camps the main source of income is carpet making. depending on the design, some carpets take up to 3 weeks to be completed, they are then taken to be sold in town. food supplies are provided only by donations with quantities depending on the number of children in each family.
